Has anyone done a train to Italy from the UK? I fancy something different and I know Eurostar have lengthened their service but I frankly don't want told many French people on the train because being in an enclosed space with French people is not pleasurable.

I know what you mean Chelmsford, I just personally want to avoid too many British people when I'm away. Maybe I'm just being miserable!

Just got back from 5 days in California...took the kids to Disneyland for a few days, did Newport Beach & went to see the LA Angels play baseball.

Great fun & only 4 hours drive from where I live in Las Vegas.

Later in the year we'll be camping at Bryce Canyon in Utah, popping home to London for my brothers wedding then to New York in December to see the Jet's play.

Going to Amsterdam twice - my daughter lives there. Before you ask, no, she doesn't work in the red light district. The first trip is planned, the second will take place as soon as possible after my daughter gives birth to my first grandchild. Can't wait.

The kids have already broken up for summer in Italy - 13 fucking weeks, they get.

We're all going back to England for 2 weeks in August. Week in London. Week in Devon or Cornwall

Re: Where are you going away this summer too and why?
after8, i know, the thing is though, apart from going on safari in kenya which is by far the best holiday I've had, the holidays I've had here when we've had the weather have been just as good as the ones abroad.

i suppose the difference here though is my eldest two can come down with their other other halves and the grand daughter as we get a lodge rather than a hotel as we would if we went abroad.

This year for two weeks during the summer holidays its cost me £2500, last year when i took the youngest out of school for a week and went during half term it was just over a grand. Thats some difference in price.

When my eldest two were at school, we took them out of school every year for a week and used the half term to take them away for a fortnight, that was when you were allowed , two weeks in florida was cheaper than what we now pay for two weeks here in the summer holidays.

Stopping kids going on holiday during term time really has pushed up the price as the holiday companies probably here rather than abroad now only have a few weeks to make their money.
